Micra is a state of the art facility specialising in large and small smash repairs. Previously Longford Bodyworks, Micra has been running for over 30 years and is constantly growing. We repair any vehicle of any make or model, including buses, trucks and motorbikes. We are AMBRIS approved and also compile structural reports on repairable write off vehicles.
Micra specialise in all kinds of repairs from fibre glass, to aluminum and even high strength steel repairs. Plastic welding electrodes combined with compounds and adhesives ensure the perfect plastic repair and are among some of the processes we use to repair vehicles back to their original condition.
Micra Accident Repair Centre (previously Longford Bodyworks) has a long and proud history. The family business began in 1980 when Elwyn and Lesley Mullins started the small bodyworks from a backyard garage in Longford. Micra co-owners Michael Shelton and Craig Carey were both long time employees of the business – both have been with the company for more than a quarter of a century. The first move the business made was from its backyard garage to Longford’s central BP service station. Not long after Elwyn retired, and his two sons-in-law bought the business. Six years on and it was time to move again, this time to the former Monds and Affleck mill in Longford. For more than 10 years Longford Bodyworks called the mill home, renovating and extending the building several times.
In 2008 Micra Accident Repair Centre was built to cope with growing demand. Over three decades the business has grown from just four employees to thirty seven, winning a variety of awards along the way.
Ashlee, Karlene, Kellie, Kim and Morgan are all available to help you with advice or quoting needs in our onsite reception area. Customers are able to sit down and enjoy a tea or coffee whilst waiting for quotes.
Craig – Manager/Proprietor
Craig Carey is a dedicated and ambitious man. Married to Deanne for 29 years, his family, his job and fly-fishing at the highest level all play significant roles in Craig’s life. Craig first started working in the automotive industry at the age of 20, working for his father-in-law Elwyn Mullins at the old Longford Bodyworks. Craig was always keen to work for himself and that opportunity came when Elywn retired in the early 90’s. Craig bought the business in partnership with his Brother-in-law Michael Shelton, and neither of them have looked back.
Michael – Workshop Foreman/Proprietor
With 30 years experience in the automotive industry, Michael Shelton still has a strong passion for his job. Michael has only ever worked for one company – Longford Bodyworks, now Micra Accident Repair Centre – which he began working for at the age of 16. Starting at such a young age has enabled Michael to obtain skills for both spray painting and panel beating. Michael has always had a passion for anything with an engine, a passion which he has passed down to his two sons Aiden and Daimon. Both Aiden and Daimon have been racing go karts competitively for around 16 years, and have each won state titles on a number of occasions. In his spare time Michael enjoys spending time with his family, or anything to do with motor sport – whether it be spectating, pit crewing for his sons or riding his motorbike.
Kim – Account Manager/Proprietor
Kim Shelton has been working in administration and accounts for over 27 years, starting out at the Commonwealth Bank before moving into the family business around 20 years ago. Daughter of Elwyn Mullins and wife to Michael, her experience and knowledge of the industry makes her a vital part of the Micra team.
Simon – Head Estimator
Simon Spencer has been a valued member of Micra Accident Repair centre for 15 years. Beginning his career at Micra as a spray painter, Simon now estimates full time. Simon enjoys spending time with his family, cars, and Harley-Davidsons.
Luke – Workshop Manager
Luke Acheson has been working at Micra for 11 years. Luke started working in the industry since at the age of 17 and moved to Micra in 2004.
